Herpes Simplex Virus and Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis
Background and objective: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare histiocytic proliferative disorder of unknown etiology and mainly affects young children. The histological feature is granuloma-like proliferation of langerhans-type dendritic cells. Although the possible role of viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV, Human Herpes virus -4</...
متن کاملThe Inactivation of Herpes Simplex Virus by Phosphatase Enzymes
Tissue phosphatases which are present in virus suspensions were found to contribute in considerable measure to the inactivation of herpes simplex virus. Phosphatase inhibitors and phosphatase substrates have been found to prolong the survival of the virus. Exogenous phosphatases, both acid and alkaline, have been demonstrated to bring about the loss of infectivity of suspensions of this virus.
متن کاملTzanck smears in herpes simplex virus infections
Background: The diagnosis of herpes simplex virus may requirevirological confirmation. Tzanck smear is an old, rapid, costeffective but nonspecific method that has been recently re-evaluatedas a method for the diagnosis of herpes virus infection. This studywas conducted to compare Tzanck smear and viral culture in thediagnosis of herpes simplex virus infection in patients clinicallysuspected to...

ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Herpes simplex encephalitis is a life-threatening consequence of the central nervous system (CNS) infection with Herpes simplex virus (HSV). Although it is a rare disease, mortality rates reach 70% in the absence of therapy and only a minority of individuals can return to normal function. The aim of this study was to d...
متن کاملDetection of Herpes Simplex Virus DNA in Pseudoexfoliation Syndrome
Background: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is one of the most common identifiable causes of open angle glaucoma. It has unknown etiology and pathogenesis. Infection, possibly viral, is one of the proposed pathogenic mechanisms in this condition. In the present study the presence of herpes simplex virus (HSV) in specimens of anterior lens capsule of patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome has been ...
